Stratfor, NAFTA and Global Trends at SXSW 2017

Austin, Texas

As thought leaders from around the world converge on Austin, Texas, for the 2017 South by Southwest Conference (SXSW), Stratfor will be there to offer unique insight on the fundamental, underlying drivers behind global developments.

On Saturday, March 11, Stratfor Vice President of Global Analysis Reva Goujon will look at the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement as part of a Casa Mexico SXSW panel discussion at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. Efforts to renegotiate NAFTA are coming this summer and Goujon notes that “there are a lot of interconnected issues in this bilateral relationship between the U.S and Mexico, ranging from security to immigration to trade and social stability issues.” She’ll will be joined by Univision Anchor Leon Krauze, University of Texas School of Law Professor Patricia Hansen and U.S. representatives Henry Cuellar and Will Hurd to examine what’s at stake if NAFTA were to collapse.

On Friday, March 10, Goujon will join the W2O Group’s PreCommerce Summit, a signature event featuring senior industry leaders from around the world. Alongside Haroon Ullah of the secretary of state’s Planning Staff at the U.S. State Department, Goujon will explore five current global trends and their unintended consequences on global politics and the business community.

And if you’re in Austin for the conference, be sure to catch Stratfor Contributor Parag Khanna, one of SXSW’s feature speakers, as he explores the idea of an intelligent future and how new technology will enable new possibilities in everyday life.

As the world looks to Texas this March, Stratfor has called Austin home since it was founded over 20 years go. That fresh perspective has long helped Stratfor maintain its intellectual independence from traditional thought centers like Washington and New York. It also puts the firm in good company as more and more industry innovators like Stratfor continue to call Austin home.
